C Beach Club earns Mauritius’ first Green Key certification
C Beach Club earns Green Key certification, a first for Mauritius
C Beach Club, set on the southern coast of Bel Ombre, has become the first restaurant in Mauritius to receive the internationally recognised Green Key certification. Awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and supported by the UN World Tourism Organisation and the UN Environment Programme, the label sets a global benchmark for sustainable hospitality.
In line with ER Hospitality's (formerly Rogers Hospitality) commitment to sustainability through the "Now for Tomorrow" initiative, the restaurant employs local residents, actively contributing to the region's socio-economic development. This certification is a significant achievement for all the collaborators of C Beach Club, reflecting a year of dedicated effort.
Dominique Rivet, the General Manager, shared his pride in this accomplishment: "This is a great moment for all of us. This award reflects our deep commitment to a more sustainable future. It is not only a victory for the C Beach Club but for the whole team that worked hand in hand to make this a reality."
The C Beach Club has implemented a series of ambitious measures required to secure the Green Key certification and reduce its ecological impact:
- Smarter waste management: The team now separates waste at source, making recycling more effective and reducing what ends up in landfill.
- Cutting down on plastic: The restaurant has introduced reusable bottles and switched to molasses straws, small changes with lasting impact.
- Safe product handling: Cleaning products are clearly labelled and carefully stored to avoid contamination and ensure safe use across the premises.
- Reducing food waste: Surplus meals are collected and redistributed through Foodwise, turning potential waste into valuable support for the community.
- Sustainable packaging: Takeaway containers are now reusable or biodegradable, helping phase out single-use packaging in favour of lower-impact alternatives.
- Local sourcing first: Wherever possible, ingredients are sourced locally, supporting nearby producers and lowering the carbon footprint tied to imports.
The Green Key certification is part of a broader initiative by ER Group to position the Bel Ombre territory as a leader in sustainable tropical living. This model of hospitality aims to blend luxury with environmental stewardship.
Congratulations to the entire C Beach Club team for this achievement, which opens the door to a commitment to a greener future for Mauritius.
