Building sustainable territories for today and tomorrow

In today’s climate, social and urban landscape, one conviction stands out: territorial development must become a driver of sustainability. ER Group is bringing this vision to reality in Bel Ombre, Moka and Savannah by creating living environments where nature, infrastructure and communities grow in harmony.

This approach is guided by the Group's Sustainability Framework, built on six pillars spanning Climate Resilience (energy transition, circular economy, biodiversity) and Social Inclusion (inclusive development, vibrant communities, diversity and inclusion).

Bel Ombre: where sea, land and life connect

Bel Ombre: where sea, land and life connect

In Bel Ombre, in the south-west of Mauritius, ER Group has been leading an integrated development strategy for several years, placing sustainable and inclusive development at the heart of its approach. Under the signature “Bel Ombre. Lamer. Later. Lavi.” (Sea. Land. Life.), the ambition is to be the reference in Sustainable Tropical Art de Vivre, where economic development, environmental protection and social inclusion thrive together.

Tourism, agriculture, real estate and craftsmanship are developed in close connection with the land and its resources. The region has received several international recognitions, including the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere label, Green Destination status, and GEO certifications for La Réserve Golf Links and Le Château Golf Course, among others. These recognitions reflect the Group’s commitment to biodiversity and responsible land management.

Key S&ID initiatives in Bel Ombre supporting the Group's Climate Resilience and Social Inclusion pillars include:

  • Coral reef conservation
  • Restoration of endemic forests
  • Circular agricultural initiatives that support local value chains
  • The Bouze Zenes programme, supporting youth personal development and life skills

Today, Bel Ombre stands as a Mauritian laboratory for applied sustainability, balancing economic attractiveness with respect for nature, hence paving the way for a more sustainable future for Mauritius.

Moka: A sustainable territory, a living city

Moka: A sustainable territory, a living city

For over 20 years, Moka has been developing around four pillars: optimising resource use, creating economic opportunities, improving quality of life and encouraging civic engagement. This long-term vision reflects the Group’s commitment to environmental stewardship, inclusive development and vibrant communities.

Moka is built with its people. More than 1,500 families, 95% of them Mauritian, live there. They have easy access to schools, markets, sports facilities and businesses. Through Oficea, its office brand, Moka also manages over 55,000 m² of modern, connected workspaces that support a dynamic local economy.

Community life is actively encouraged through Moka’mwad, a citizen collective launched in 2018, which brings together residents, artists and institutions through participatory initiatives such as:

  • Free sports classes
  • Neighbourhood gatherings
  • Collaborative workshops at Les Kocottes

From an environmental perspective, Moka has been recognised as Tree City of the World. More than 24,000 trees have been planted, with 35% of the territory dedicated to public spaces and green areas. Its city centre, Telfair, is Africa's first LEED-ND certified neighbourhood, reflecting the Group's commitment to sustainable urban development.

Moka City is evolving as an accessible, inclusive and dynamic city, where community engagement strengthens collective well-being and nurture a vibrant community life.

Savannah: A new sustainable way of living in the south

Savannah: A new sustainable way of living in the south

In the south, Savannah Connected Countryside explores a different way of living. Spread across 440 arpents, this new-generation village combines proximity, self-sufficiency and ecology.

Agriculture lies at the heart of the project. An 11-arpent agri-park will supply the village with fresh, locally grown produce through short supply chains. The land shapes everyday life, encouraging simpler, more local choices, supporting a circular approach, where resources are managed and reused locally.

Resource management follows the same approach, with systems for composting, waste sorting, wastewater treatment and renewable energy to power public spaces.

Savannah is also designed as a smart, connected and vibrant community. Today, more than 150 families live there. An international school welcomes around 100 students. Community life is growing, with events bringing together over 3,000 people each year.

Savannah embodies a sustainable art of living, where modern comfort and connection to the land coexist in harmony.

Ignite today for a better tomorrow

Guided by its purpose, “Ignite today for a better tomorrow,” ER Group continues to shape sustainable territories across Mauritius, where nature is preserved, resources are used responsibly, and communities can grow together. From Bel Ombre to Moka and Savannah, the Group is building places meant to be lived in, cared for and passed on to future generations.
