Overview
The main purpose of the Operations Officer – Plant Nursery is to:
- To implement the overall policies and objectives of the Management of the Plant Nursery through close and effective management of overall operations.
- Establish, promote, and enhance a good and long-term relationship with potential and actual customers.
- To optimize the utilization of resources (manpower, materials, equipment and land) within broad organizational objectives and budgets
Your role
- Responsible for the daily production to ensure production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Responsible for the sales of the plant nursery products to individual & corporate clients while ensuring excellent customer service.
- Oversee and coordinate plant nursery projects, such as new plant introductions, landscape renovations, or nursery general upgrades.
- Planning of the daily, weekly & monthly tasks assigned to the team under his supervision.
- Manage job scheduling to ensure on-time completion of jobs & fulfilment deadlines.
- Develop and implement processes to ensure consistent production quality and efficiency, addressing any operational issues and continuously improving workflows.
- Supervise and communicate with the team under his responsibility, ensuring that all tasks are clearly understood and executed according to the production plan.
- Provide direction and support to help the team achieve company goals.
- Conduct appropriate diagnostics for pests and diseases, implementing control measures to maintain the health and quality of nursery stock.
- Present and sell nursery products and services to current and potential customers, effectively explaining the features and benefits to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Maintain customer relationships by addressing inquiries, resolving complaints, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Prepare and send requested quotes from clients and follow up with clients.
- Oversee the sourcing of seeds, plants, and other materials required for production.
- Manage stock levels to prevent shortages and minimize waste, ensuring proper storekeeping of all nursery supplies and materials.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of nursery sites, equipment, machinery, and tools to support ongoing operations and maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in the drafting and revision of the yearly budget for the Plant Nursery.
- Oversee the tracking and recording of sales data, ensuring compliance with internal systems and accurate documentation of all paperwork.
- Prepare and present ad-hoc production and sales reports as required, providing insights on the performance and operations of the nursery.
- Strictly adhere to the company’s purchasing procedures and ensure all administrative tasks are completed in accordance with company policies.
- Ensure that nursery operations comply with relevant regulations, audits, and company standards.
- Address any compliance issues in collaboration with the Operations Manager.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety & environmental regulations and report any issues to the Health & Safety Officer.
- Regularly report to the Operations Manager, providing updates on daily operations, team performance, and any challenges that arise.
- Foster a collaborative and performance-oriented culture within the team.
- Any other ad-hoc duties of an administrative nature.
Your profile
- Recognized qualification in agriculture or any comparable recognized professional qualification.
- Previous experience in the sector will constitute an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of plants.
- Computer literacy with demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft programs, with advanced skills in formulating spreadsheets using Microsoft EXCEL.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which includes fluency in English and French
- Technical skills, critical thinking, problem solving skills and people’s management skills.
- Dynamic, pleasant and customer service oriented.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
