The Head of Business Unit – Heavy Machinery is responsible for providing strategic direction and overall leadership of the Heavy Machinery Business Unit, encompassing sales, after-sales, workshop operations and parts. Reporting to the Chief Sales Officer and Chief Operations Officer, the role holder drives revenue growth, profitability, and market development both in Mauritius and regionally while building a high-performing team and maintaining strong relationships with principals, key accounts, and stakeholders. A key pillar of the mandate is to identify, develop, and execute the BU’s regional expansion strategy into Africa, establishing new market footholds, partnerships, and distribution channels. He/She ensures operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and full alignment with Axess’s strategic objectives.
- Define and execute the BU strategic plan aligned to CAP 29.
- Drive growth in sales, service, and parts across Mauritius and targeted African markets
- Lead regional expansion into Africa by mapping priority markets and establishing partnerships
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity.
- Manage and develop OEM principal relationships
- Ensure compliance with brand standards, warranty policies, and audit requirements
- Lead negotiations for dealer agreements, technical training, and after-sales support programmes.
- Lead, coach, and develop a multi-disciplinary team across sales, after-sales, workshop, and parts
- Build a high-performance culture aligned to Axess values
- Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning.
- Oversee full BU operations including equipment sales pipeline, workshop efficiency, parts availability, and PDI throughput
- Ensure resource optimisation and adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Prepare and own the BU annual budget, monthly management accounts, and rolling forecasts
- Monitor financial performance against plan
- Implement corrective actions
- Build strong relationships with key accounts, fleet operators, and corporate clients
- Ensure consistent, high-quality customer experience across sales and after-sales touchpoints
- Manage escalations and drive NPS improvement.
- Drive brand awareness across Mauritius and Africa; develop go-to-market strategies for new products and geographies
- Identify and onboard African distribution partners
- Collaborate with marketing on campaigns and trade events.

General Education: Master's Degree or Equivalent Level
General Experience: Substantial general work experience together with comprehensive job related experience in own area of expertise to fully competent level. (Over 6 years to 10 years)
Managerial Experience: Experience of planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives as specified by more senior managers (Over 3 years to 6 years)
